We have a general trend of hiring plumbers directly for plumbing works in our buildings as it is convenient and may sound cheaper. However, it always may not be the best way. Here are some common mistakes plumbers make, knowing these you can save a few bucks and repeating maintenance hassles
1. Using the same supply pipe for different floors
Doing so may cause low pressure in your taps and showers on the upper floors while people on lower floors use their taps/showers. Thus a proper pressure calculation must be done for each faucet so that we don’t have problems for the rest of our lives
2. Improper pipe sizing
To be safe from future pressure issues, a plumber mostly oversizes your pipes. This will take out a big chunk of money from your pocket. Not only that it causes cavitation in your pipes which may make your drinking water impure and also reduces the life of the piping systems.
3. Use of too many fittings
Doing so not only costs you more money but also decreases the pressure value of the system.
4. Sizing Pumps as per HP value
Pumps must be selected as per flow rate and head rather than HP. HP is just an indication of how much electricity the pump will consume.
5. Improper Slope in drainages
Plumbers generally have a mindset of giving more slope to the pipe. However, this is a wrong practice as it drains out the trap and causes a foul smell in the drainage system.
6. Improper Vents
Most plumbers use vents only to release foul smells. However proper sizing and connection of vents can supply pulling air pressure to the system reducing blockage issues.
7. Using a Single drainage system
Drainage systems might be single or multiple as per the type of building or use. Improper planning may result in severe blockages.
So we recommend you choose a professional plumber rather than a local one.
