Traditional incandescent lamp

High Intensity Discharge lamp (HID)

This lamp can further classified into three types:

Metal Halide lamp (MH)

It emits white color light which is similar to natural daylight and improves color rendering and is commonly found in areas where color visibility is important such as sports areas, supermarkets etc.

Mercury Vapor lamp

It emits bluish color light and is less commonly use for street lighting as it has lower energy efficiency and shorter lifespan as compare to HPS and MH lights.

Fluorescent lamp

There are further two types of fluorescent lamps and they are:

Compact fluorescent lamp (CFL)

This fluorescent lamp is energy efficient but not generally use as it has limited light distribution and color temperature.

Induction lamp

This fluorescent lamp has longer life compare to CFL but not use nowadays due to competition with LED lights technology.

Light Emitting Diode (LED) Lamp

There are two types of LED lights. They are:

LED Streetlights

This light has higher energy efficient, longer life span and has a better color rendering as compare to other traditional lamps.

Smart LED Street light

It has a sensor and controls for adopting lights based on environmental condition and has a monitoring controls for effective maintenance.

Solar Street lights

It stores electricity generated from solar panels during day time into batteries and utilize it during night time so, it is environment friendly.

Inductive light

It has longer lifespan and greater energy efficiency and light is produce by electromagnetic field.

Plasma lamps

It has limited use due to its complexity and cost and it produces light by exiting gas molecules.
